Comments on stroke
1. Over-rolling to inhale. The entire face rolls out of the water. 2. The head is too low in the water - the water level is at the crown of the head instead of at the forehead. Comments on full video
The body position is too inclined (the legs are too low in the water) with the two beat kick per arm cycle. |
Analysis of model stroke
Breathing
Ideally, the breathing cycle involves turning the head to both sides to inhale (known as bilateral breathing). As the body moves through the water, a wave shape is formed in front of and under the face. Near the end of the arm's push phase, the head should turn to inhale. There is no need to turn the head too far to the side as a breath can be taken within the trough of the wave As the arm starts recovery, the head returns to face forward for exhaling for the remainder of the arm cycle. The breathing cycle should be accomplished slowly and in timing with the arm action. Inhaling (the oxygen rich) air is quicker than exhaling (the oxygen-depleted) air. You have a longer period of time to exhale so this may be done by slowly breathing out during the remainder of the arm action. |
